In Our Community

At Blondies, we're committed to serving our community. We are a part of the Ingersoll Avenue Association and believe in the growth and future of Ingersoll Avenue.

We donate annually to different causes that include:

• The All Iowa Aids Project
  What is now known as the AIDS Project of Central Iowa (The Project) opened its doors in December 1991, becoming a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1993. The Project has grown and is now the largest HIV/AIDS service and prevention agency in the state of Iowa. The agency provides personalized direct care services to hundreds of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as provides prevention services to thousands of Iowans at-risk for contracting the disease.
• Young Women's Resource Center
  At the Young Women’s Resource Center, they believe that every girl deserves a life of possibilities. The Center help young women realize their full potential by providing programming to girls ages 10-21 in central Iowa. Their unique structure features two branches of services — prevention and perinatal — to better serve clients throughout various stages of life. Their goal is to help young women become strong, self-confident and successful. The YWRC utilizes education and support to create a safe environment for girls where they experience acceptance, compassion, knowledge and commitment.
• Association for Disabled Veterans
• Room for the Cause - rooms that are decorated for children with cancer
• Locks of Love
  Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. They meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses they provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. Blondies sends many 10 inch pony tails to this cause to make wigs for kids.

We are also proud supporters of the Des Moines Art Center, and donate our time and put on a show for the Art Center called the Big Hair Ball.
